Case Study #1

Subject Name: P. L. (26-year-old Male)

Location: St. Louis, Missouri

Profession: Bounty Hunter

Setback: Subject began taking methadone to cope with his withdrawal from opiates.

Drug: Methadone—60mg daily

P. L.’s Life Story

“I became addicted to methadone after taking it a last year to help myself withdraw from opiates. My job as a bounty hunter can be very physical at times and I have suffered from chronic knee pain for years.

“The pain was debilitating and began to affect my job. I turned to opiates to help me cope. I was in a lot of pain at that time, and the opiates helped to ease that pain, temporarily.

“I realized that I had become addicted to the opiates and wanted to make a change after my friends had told me how different I was acting. I heard methadone was helpful in withdrawing from opiates, so I decided to give it a try.

“Slowly, the methadone took over and I couldn’t go a day without it. I tried weaning myself very slowly, but I felt so terrible that I just resorted back to using more of it.

“I knew that I needed help fast. An old friend came to visit and realized how deep my newfound addiction was, so she told me about Novus. The rest is “history”—in a good way.”

P.L.’s Success Can Be Yours Too

“This has been the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. I kick doors in and hunt people for a living, but I have never been terrified like I was about detox. Yet I made it! And only because of the constant reinforcement I received from both the nurses and counseling staff.

“I could not have done this without Novus and the fact that they all genuinely care and wanted me to succeed. Anyone I crossed paths with at one time or another brought me from the darkest corner of my own mind.

“I can’t thank you all enough. You are the reason I have been able to complete this program and make biggest and best changes of my life. I finally have a renewed hope for myself and my future.

“I couldn’t even remember what hope felt like until I came here. Thank you all!”

Location: Manchester, New Hampshire

Profession: Business Executive

Setback: M. C. started using methadone to end a 9-year addiction to opiates.

Drug: Methadone—100mg daily, Klonopin—1mg daily

M. C.’s Life Story

“I hit rock bottom when I lost my job and house, all within a month. I fell into a deep depression and began looking for a way to feel better.

I heard methadone was helpful in withdrawing from opiates, so I decided to give it a try. It was no better than being on opiates — I had replaced one drug with another. Case Study #3

Subject Name: V. K. (25-year-old Male)

Location: Jersey City, New Jersey

Profession: Unemployed

Setback: V. K. went from being a heroin addict to a methadone addict.

Drug: Methadone—75 mg daily, Xanax—1 mg daily

V. K.’S Life Story

“Life started off good for me.

“I was born into a nice family in Jersey City, New Jersey; we were not rich, but were not poor, either.

“Living in the city has its advantages and disadvantages.

“The biggest disadvantage is drugs — everyone here does drugs.

“I started off smoking grass in Junior High School.

“I didn’t think it was that bad to do; besides, it was fun to go to school high.

“From there, the drugs got harder. I hate to sound cliché, but the peer pressure in school is incredible.

“Before I knew it, most of school was just a gigantic blur.

“I experimented with every sort of drug there was, from the almost daily pot smoking ritual (I never gave that up) to LSD, Ecstasy and speed, and then finally, that first hit of heroin at the end of my senior year. I got to know nirvana from the point of a needle.

“My grades suffered, but somehow I limped by; but no college for me. I wasn’t sure what was for me; I had a habit I needed to feed. I started taking Xanax as a way to cut my craving, but that turned out to be yet another addiction.

“My family was ready to abandon me and sent me to detox, but I simply traded one habit for another — methadone.

“Now I needed methadone more than heroin, and at the ripe age of 22, I had no future.

“I had no life.

“My days were measured by my drugs. I knew I needed to snap out of it — but how?”

Medical Dossier

  • Day 1: Arrived 1445 (2:45 PM); had last taken 120 mg of methadone the day before at 1100 hours (11:00 AM). Took 20 mg of Xanax earlier that day. Medication and Supplements given PRN (as needed)
  • Day 2: Patient started vitamin and IV regimen (to be continued for 11 days) and was able to sleep and eat with no complaints. Medication given PRN (as needed).
  • Day 3: Patient started having sleep issues, but was able to manage with herbal remedies. Medication given PRN (as needed).
  • Day 4: Patient’s sleep and eating back to normal. He is stable and doing well. Medication and Supplements given PRN (as needed).
  • Day 6: Patient started Subutex protocol.
  • Day 7: Taper is smooth as patient continues to be able to sleep and eat, and is stable
  • Day 11: Patient has completed taper, very stable and feels good.
  • Day 13: Patient discharged and feeling great.

Results Summary

Subject has successfully withdrawn from methadone and Xanax in 13 days.

The Novus Medical Detox Difference

V.K. termed himself a loser.

He just couldn’t win, after going to detox after detox.

He was down on himself, and he was an addict.

Fortunately for him, his family never completely gave up on him.

A friend of the family, knowing the situation, told them about Novus Medical Detox and their high record of success.

V.K. was very scared to try it, particularly after the previous losses, but the Novus staff explained the program and told him they would make it as comfortable as possible for him.

They explained the 24/7 personal care and monitoring so he would never be alone in his withdrawal program, and that there was a trained professional always there for him.

The Novus protocol delivers a much more comfortable withdrawal than most other methods.

V.K.’s program was tailor-made to his needs, his drug history and his physical condition, unlike other “one-protocol-fits-all” programs.

He has worked himself out of a hole and has entered college to get his degree.

V.K.’s Success Can Be Yours Too

“I had a great stay at Novus.

“It was a complete change of environment, as opposed to other detoxes that I’d gone to.

“The vitamin/mineral aspect really helps.

“In order to gain a better chance at sobriety, I felt it was vital to feel good about myself, and that helped me do this in the best way possible.

“When I first decided to come to Novus, I was scared and unsure of the outcome, of sobriety, and of being able to have chances afterwards to use again.

“Since I have been here for 14 days and away from methadone or supposed liquid handcuffs, I have gained hope in sobriety, in myself, and the chance to have a true life of real friends, a good job, and “happiness.

“I didn’t think I’d ever be able to have a day of clean time, or even the chance to feel no more withdrawal.

“I’ve been to six different detoxes. It’s almost like a dream to feel the way I feel today.

“And I couldn’t thank enough of the Novus staff – and the friends I’ve gained — that have all given me so much strength to be the true person I really am.”

Read What Other Patients Have To Say

“Everything here was better than I ever imagined. If you want your life back, this staff will help you in any and every way possible.”
“The people here showed me that there is light at the end of a dark, dark tunnel that I thought I would never make it out of. All the people—the whole staff, every single person who works here saved my life. Some people think about money and the cost to come here and decide not to. I would have paid $5000 a day to be here with people who helped get my life back. That’s how good this staff is. They really care and understand what you are going through. Thank you with all my heart.”
“I was taking 300 — 600mg of methadone daily. Up to 1200 at times along with 10 — 20 mg of Xanax when I entered Novus. All hope was gone, no detox would take me. 14 days after, I leave here drug free and miraculously, my detox was 99% pain free. I leave with hope and full support of my family. Words cannot describe the miracles that I have gone through and witnessed during my stay.”
