“When I came in I was an emotional and physical wreck. So many problems in my life accumulated that I didn’t care about getting clean anymore. Coming here is exactly what I needed to clean my mind and body. I have been through other detox centers that were not that great. I was totally comfortable the whole time I was here… great amenities, great food, great location. I feel amazing. Thank you Novus. Thank you for helping me through the toughest time in my life.”

Why You Have Pain and Need a Medically-Supervised Heroin Detox

  • Endorphins are the body’s natural painkillers and mood elevators.
  • Your body’s production of endorphins is artificially increased by heroin, morphine, methadone, Vicodin, hydrocodone, oxycodone, OxyContin and other opioids and opiates.
  • As you use heroin, fewer and fewer natural endorphins are produced by your body as it becomes more and more dependent on heroin to produce endorphins.
  • Stop heroin and there are insufficient endorphins produced by the body.
  • This causes the severe and physically painful heroin withdrawal symptoms.
  • Because of the pain, almost no one can complete a heroin withdrawal on their own.
  • Understanding how heroin affects the body is important.

From one of our patients:

“Today will be my last full day at Novus Detox and I can’t believe these words are coming out of my mouth because my biggest goal my entire life has been to get myself out of the institutions I get myself into (jails, detox and rehabs) and if I could, I would stay. This place is amazing. The staff goes above and beyond to satisfy your every need. The hope you feel during your stay is incredible.

“I came in here completely hopeless and on the verge of suicide and I’ll be leaving feeling like a brand new person…. I have never been taken such good care of in my entire life. Anyone looking to better their life by stopping their use of drugs needs to come here. I have been through SEVERAL detoxes and rehabs and never have I enjoyed my stay even one bit. Novus, I absolutely LOVE this place and I’m sad that I have to leave but also at the same time feel a sense of hope that Novus has instilled into me that I cannot recall ever feeling in my life. Thank you Novus, you have gone above and beyond for me.”

the life of a person with a heroin addiction

  • Their life is controlled by their heroin addiction
  • Heroin is illegal and they are always afraid that they will be arrested while buying the heroin or when they have it in their possession
  • They have to hide their heroin addiction from their family and friends
  • They are always planning their lives around being able to get their next dose
  • They are always making excuses for why they need to borrow money and eventually run out of money from legal sources to feed their heroin addiction
  • They begin to do illegal acts that they never would have considered because they are controlled by their heroin addiction
  • They make excuses about their always seeming to be sick
  • They make excuses about their appearance and the way that they dress
  • They start associating with other heroin addicts or drug addicts because they don’t feel that they are being “judged”
  • They know that if they continue with their heroin addiction, they will end up like the other heroin addicts they have seen—in jail or dead from an overdose
  • They know that they are trapped but see no way to escape the trap of heroin addiction.

From one of our patients:

“After 15 years of IV heroin and opiate use Novus helped me realize that I can make my decisions possible. I never believed there was a detox facility that could truly make the withdrawal of 15 years of hardcore addiction tolerable.

“Make no mistake, you are going to have to bear some mild withdrawal symptoms, but, if you can make someone with 15 years of heroin addiction eat 3 meals a day and sleep comfortably, in my mind it was nothing short of a miracle.”

Heroin Overdose

A heroin overdose is a condition where a person’s body is unable to tolerate the amount of heroin ingested and the organs start shutting down. An overdose is often fatal unless immediate medical attention is received.

A heroin overdose generally occurs because:

  • The heroin user’s body becomes more and more depleted of essential nutrients, amino acids and minerals and is not functioning as well
  • The heroin user’s body becomes more and more dehydrated which further slows the functions of each of the person’s cells and organs
  • Because, like any chemical brought into the body by a drug or alcohol, the body adapts to the heroin and requires more and more heroin to get the same high and stop the painful withdrawal from starting
  • Sometimes the heroin overdose occurs when the next heroin dose contains more heroin and less filler than the person is used to taking
  • For example, the person was purchasing bags of heroin that contained 45% heroin and 55% filler and, with no warning, purchases a bag of heroin which contains 90% heroin and 10% filler—which means that the person is suddenly taking twice as much heroin and this causes a heroin overdose
  • Sometimes the deteriorating condition of the body that is caused by heroin addiction will no longer be able to tolerate even the same amount of heroin as the person was taking and there is a heroin overdose
  • If a person suffering from a heroin overdose does not receive immediate medical treatment they may die
  • The emergency rooms are seeing more and more victims of heroin overdose and saving most of them—for now
  • The only way to guarantee a person will avoid a heroin overdose is to handle a person’s heroin addiction with a proper detox program and rehab program.

Symptoms of heroin overdose:

  • Pinpoint size pupils
  • Bluish skin
  • Bluish fingernails
  • Looseness of the muscles
  • Clammy and cold skin
  • Lowered blood pressure and heart rate
  • Coma
  • Severe respiratory distress
  • Seizures
  • Death

Heroin Facts:

  • Is processed from morphine, a naturally occurring substance extracted from the poppy plant
  • Is typically sold by the bag (30-50 milligrams) of from 10%-70% pure heroin
  • Has been recognized as highly addictive since 1898
  • Has been illegal in the United States since 1924
  • Is highly addictive like OxyContin, oxycodone, Vicodin, methadone, hydrocodone and other opiates and opioids
  • A more comfortable and safe heroin withdrawal requires a supervised heroin medical detox.

The Ideal Solution for Heroin Detox, Heroin Withdrawal and Heroin Rehab Treatment:

  • Comfortably and safely withdraws you from your heroin addiction under 24/7 medical supervision
  • Doesn’t put you on methadone, another addictive drug, that keeps you in the trap of heroin addiction and forces you to a continued life of drug dependency
  • Doesn’t put you on other prescription drugs
  • Uses IV’s to replenish the hydration, nutrients, amino acids and minerals depleted by heroin to make the body and its organs stronger
  • Uses natural supplements and medications as needed
  • As you feel better, helps you find a rehabilitation program that gets real results.
