Dilaudid Detox Center

Hydromorphone Addiction

Dilaudid is a brand name medication used in the treatment of moderate to severe pain. Although it is not the most common painkiller, it is one of the most powerful opioids – and it comes with profound risks for physical dependence, addiction, and the cycle of self-destruction.

If you’re looking to end the pattern of substance abuse and regain your life, Novus Detox is here to help you through the hardest part: withdrawal.

Get Yourself Back

Novus Detox is experienced in helping people overcome opioid withdrawal. Our inpatient hydromorphone detox program is driven by personalized protocols and a prioritization of patient comfort and safety – and can help you get your life back in at little as 7-11 days.

How to Get Off Dilauded

Dilauded (hydromorphone) is a semi-synthetic opiate (or “opioid agonist”) which works similarly to methadone and heroin. However, it’s more potent, and because of its quick onset and short half-life, is most often used to treat patients with significant postoperative and chronic pain.

At Novus, we know prescription painkillers can lead people down a difficult path, and have dedicated years to refining our detox programs to support patients facing withdrawal from all types of substances – including Dilaudid, Exalgo (extended release hydromorphone), and other opioids.

  • Protocols for Patient Comfort – Novus prioritizes patient comfort, which is why our detox specialists and staff tailor medical protocols to each individual’s needs, and make adjustments as needed to ensure the most comfortable detox possible.

Dilaudid Withdrawal & Side Effects

Dilaudid and other hydromorphone drugs have an overwhelming potential for physical dependence and addiction. For many, that makes withdrawal and detox incredibly daunting.

At Novus, our programs help patients overcome fears about getting clean, and manage the pain and anxiety of withdrawal as comfortably as possible. Adjusted to maximize each patient’s unique metabolism, our medical protocols mitigate the risks of complications and relapse which accompany cold turkey, DIY, and “rapid” detoxes.

Though the fear of pain and discomfort can make detox a difficult decision, at Novus we know how to overcomee that pain and discomfort. Inpatient medical detox can help manage the many symptoms of Dilauded withdrawal:

  • Body, joint, and muscle pain
  • Anxiety, agitation, restlessness, and insomnia
  • Nausea, dizziness, cramps, stomach aches
  • Sweating, runny nose, watering eyes, and flu-like symptoms
  • Vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration
  • Muscular spasms, tremors
  • High blood pressure / heart rate

Novus takes a comprehensive approach to withdrawal management, harmonizing medication, buprenorphine (Subutex) therapy, and natural supplementation to effectively control pain and adverse symptoms, and offering the total mind-and-body support patients need as they taper down to zero, and build upon their foundation for a brighter future.

Dilauded Detox FAQ

How Long Does Dilauded Detox Take?

The timeline for Dilauded detox varies from patient to patient, and is dependent on many individual factors and circumstances, including:

  • Patient age, overall health, and metabolism / genetics
  • Amount and duration of use
  • Route of administration (pills, liquid, rectal, IV)
  • Use of other drugs and substance(s)
  • Current state of vitamin, mineral, and hydration

Due to a shorter half-life, Dilaudid users may begin to experience mild withdrawal symptoms within 4-8 hours after last use. Those symptoms may intensify and peak within the first three days (12 to 72 hours), after which they will begin to become less intense.

The onset of symptoms and withdrawal may extend when hydromorphone is taken in the form of extended-release pills (Exalgo). Still, most patients are able to leave detox within 7-11 days.

Is Medical Detox Necessary for Dilauded?

Opioid withdrawl isn’t known for high risks of fatal complications like alcohol or benzos, but it is known for being an extremely difficult and uncomfortable withdrawal experience. Dilauded is one of the most powerful opioids – so much so that it is approved for end-of-life care and lethal injection – and it creates a powerful physical dependency that is not easy to overcome on one’s own.

In addition to pain management, medically supervised detox can help patients struggling with hydromorphone abuse mitigate real risks of adverse health consequences. This aids in reducing the potential for relapse, a cyclical fate for many who try to detox from opioids alone.

Medical management for Dilaudid withdrawal is only part of the puzzle; a comprehensive approach to detoxification creates the foundation you need to rebuild and regain your life.

Is Buprenorphine Used in Dilaudid Detox?

Novus uses buprenorphine in opioid / opiate detoxes, including Dilauded detox. Specifically, we use Subutex (buprenorphine only), which does not contain the drug naloxone (Narcan) like Suboxone does. Narcan can cause immediate severe withdrawal if given while opioids are in the system, causing pain and anxiety. Suboxone is intended for use as a maintenance drug.

Our detox professionals conduct thorough intake evaluations to determine the most appropriate course of action, which may include medication-assisted therapy that allows patients to manage cravings and withdrawal symptoms as they transition away from stronger opioids. Protocols are carefully tailored and adjusted as needed, with the ultimate goal of tapering patients down to zero.

Our medical supervision and careful titration (stepping down) is crucial to detoxing safely and comfortably – and reaching the ultimate goal of being free from all substances.
