Benzo Detox Center

All our withdrawal programs are individualized, tailor-made for each person and adjusted as needed, to supply the most comfortable, safe and effective withdrawal possible. There is no “one-size-fits-all” for withdrawal at Novus' inpatient drug detox facility.

Becoming Dependent on Benzos

Benzodiazepines, also known as “benzos,” possess sedative, hypnotic, anti-anxiety, anticonvulsant, muscle relaxant and amnesic actions. They affect certain parts of your brain that are used to help you maintain your calm.

  • These neurotransmitters, known as “GABA,” are very important to maintaining your well-being.
  • But when you become addicted to benzos, the body stops producing GABA and you become totally dependent on the drug.

Benzos Can Hide Symptoms

Valium and Xanax are two of the most popularly prescribed benzos.

Benzos are often prescribed to treat symptoms that are caused by physiological conditions. These drugs do not treat the cause of the symptoms, and like anything that is not treated, the underlying condition worsens and the symptoms increase. This is the real benzo fury.

This causes the person to take more drugs, which leads to additional problems from the side effects of the drugs which include dizzyness, weakness and even difficulty breathing.

Being addicted to benzos is dangerous, as indicated above. However, suddenly stopping use of the drug can readily lead to severe medical difficulties. It is vital that any attempt to withdraw from taking benzos be done in a proper medical detox center.

Withdrawal on your own can lead to seizures and even death.
