Alcohol Detox Center

Alcohol Addiction

Alcohol is, and has long been, deeply intertwined with daily life. Because it’s also one of the most addictive substances there is, alcohol abuse is considered the number one drug problem in America.

Fortunately, there are options for those struggling with addiction and dependency – you don’t have to go it alone.

We Put Patient Safety & Comfort First

Novus Detox is the first step in the journey toward a clean body and mind, and the right choice for medically supervised alcohol detox that makes a difficult process as safe and comfortable as possible.

Our state-of-the-art alcohol detox center in Tampa Bay offers personalized protocols, 24/7 access to medical professionals, and a safe, welcoming space to help patients detox in as little as 5-7 days.

Alcohol addiction looks different for everyone – and so does alcohol detox. Learn how Novus can help you take your next step by calling (855) 464-8550.

How to Get Off Alcohol

Alcohol may be readily available and deeply ingrained in our cultures and customs, but its devastating consequences are all too apparent – whether it’s health, personal or public safety, or happiness. It’s also one of the most difficult and dangerous substances to quit.

Whether you’ve lapsed into bad habits you want to change or have a long-standing dependency you want to overcome, detoxification is the first step to getting on a different path. Though some detox centers offer promises or dangerous “rapid detox,”the Novus difference offers something else:

  • Medical Support –Novus offers evidence-based detox protocols tailored to each patient’s unique circumstances, substance use, and pain and comfort levels. Medications are administered by medical professionals who prioritize patient comfort, adaptability, and 24/7 nursing care, and programs are not expedited at the risk of patients’ health.
  • Natural Supplements – Alcohol dehydrates the body and depletes its most critical nutrients. To address these deficiencies and promote the body’s restorative capabilities, Novus blends medically-assisted detox with IVs and natural supplementation.
  • Personalized Support – Detoxing from alcohol is an experience of profound proportions, and our providers at Novus are passionate about helping patients make the most of their first (and most anxiety-ridden) steps in the process. That’s why we place a premium on personalizing our services; from medical protocol and patient comfort to counseling and resources that aid patients in their next chapters in life.
  • Comfort is our Priority – Withdrawal and detox have become synonymous with suffering, and while they’re certainly no easy endeavor, they do not have to be needlessly painful or uncomfortable. Our medical and support staff work together to ensure each patient receives the comprehensive care and support to make their detox as comfortable as possible; whether it’s tailoring protocols and natural supplementation or providing delicious food, a safe and home-like setting, or helpful resources and the support of truly compassionate professionals.

Detox programs focus on detoxifying harmful substances from the body, but each is different. Not only should alcohol detox be performed safely and in a reasonable amount of time (not rapidly at the risk of patient health), it should also prioritize patients and their experiences.

From our tailored protocols that can be adjusted to each patient’s situation and comfort level to our state-of-the-art facilities, luxurious amenities, and compassionate counselors and staff, everything we do at Novus is designed to help our patients succeed as they navigate the next steps.

From a recent patient:

“When I came in there was no white in my eyes at all—nothing but bloodshot red. Now my eyes are crystal white and no redness. I had been drinking a half gallon of whiskey every day for years and they helped detoxify me, not an easy task… I’m looking forward to a new fully enriched life without booze. The world awaits and I am looking forward to it.”

Alcohol Withdrawal & Side Effects

Alcohol has immense potential for mental and physical addiction. Depending on how much, how often, and for how long a person has been drinking, cutting back or stopping can produce symptoms ranging from mild to severe and potentially fatal.

As a depressant, alcohol slows brain function and causes the central nervous system to transform in order to keep the brain awake and in operation. When a person stops drinking, the brain stays in the same amplified state. This is what causes withdrawal.

Mild symptoms of alcohol withdrawal can begin as early as 6 hours after a person’s last drink, and may include:

  • Headache and nausea
  • Anxiety and restlessness
  • Vomiting and diarrhea
  • Tremors / shakiness
  • Insomnia and sleep difficulties
  • Sweating and flu-like symptoms

More serious withdrawal symptoms can begin within 12 to 24 hours after the last drink, and may persist for several days. Symptoms tend to peak within the first few days, and DT or cardiac arrest can become a concern within the first 24-72 hours of withdrawal before dissipating by days 5-7. Some withdrawal symptoms can become severe, life-threatening emergencies (i.e. seizures, arrhythmia, kidney / liver dysfunction, DTs, and increased heart rate / blood pressure).

Novus protocols are designed to address all of these symptoms for the most comfortable and safe withdrawal possible.

More serious alcohol withdrawal symptoms can include:

  • Hallucinations (visual, auditory)
  • Seizures
  • DTs (delirium tremens)
  • Confusion and disorientation
  • Palpitations, high blood pressure, and shortness of breath
  • Fever and flu-like symptoms
  • Severe pain, nausea, and sweating
  • Irritability and mood swings

Managing alcohol withdrawal symptoms requires more than white knuckles or sheer grit. Patients can face serious health risks when attempting to stop on their own, and may set themselves up for relapse and the cycle of abuse when ill-prepared.

At Novus, we take great care in providing the medicines, supplements, and medical supervision needed to overcome the hardest part of getting clean – and ensure our patients’ detox are as safe, comfortable, and productive as possible.

Common Alcohol Detox Questions

How Bad Will Alcohol Withdrawal Be?

Withdrawal from alcohol is not a walk in the park, which is why medical supervision and comprehensive support can make all the difference. It is not, however, insurmountable. Generally:

  • Symptoms peak within 24-72 hours after the last drink (1-3 days);
  • Most withdrawal symptoms decrease within 5-7 days;
  • The more dependent a person is on alcohol, the more severe symptoms can become.

Though you’ve surely heard “how bad” alcohol detox can be, a tailored program of medications, hydrating IVs, and natural supplements can help ease pain and withdrawal symptoms, and facilitate your body’s ability to heal and restore function.

How Long Does Alcohol Detox Take?

The length of any detox is in part dependent on a person’s own genetics and history of substance use. A person seeking detox for alcohol alone, for example, would have a much different experience than someone seeking help for a high-volume addiction to alcohol plus other drugs.

Generally, alcohol withdrawal can last several days, with some people experiencing physical or psychological symptoms for weeks to months. At Novus, we don’t believe in the safety or efficacy of “rapid detox,” especially for alcohol. Our patients complete alcohol detox in an average of 5-7 days, and many go on to solidify their fresh start with rehab, meetings, or other things that work for them.
