A REAL TREATMENT FOR PAIN?

PAIN

  • Millions of people are suffering from pain. 
  • Sometimes it is from accidents.
  • Sometimes it is a consequence of surgery.
  • Sometimes it is caused by an illness. 

PAIN TREATMENT

Unfortunately, what passes for "treatment" in many medical clinics is not to address the cause of the pain but to give drugs like OxyContin, the Fentanyl patch, methadone or Vicodin which act in the same manner as anesthesia--merely preventing the person from feeling the pain.

These drugs do not "treat" anything.  The actual cause of the pain is not addressed and probably just worsens.  The solution from many doctors is to just give more of these drugs to attempt to block the person from feeling the pain.

In fact, as we discussed in Opioids Increasing Pain, many times these opioid drugs just increase the pain and the person finds that the more drugs they take, the more their pain increases. 

If the person is taking methadone for pain, they should read Methadone--A Killer, and understand the risks that these drugs are taking, particularly if the pain is increasing. 

These drugs are central nervous system depressants, and if you take too much they can cause your heart and lungs to shut down.

THE DRUGS NO LONGER BLOCK THE PAIN

Many people given drugs like OxyContin, the Fentanyl patch, methadone or Vicodin come to Novus because they cannot continue to take the drug and function, but they still have their pain.  They see no alternative but to come off the drug or they will have no quality of life.
