"The situation that I found myself in, which was addiction to pain medication, was the first time in my 37 years when I was not in control.  I had to trust what other people were telling me about where I was going and what I had to expect for treatment.  Not easy to do.  I had no clue.  It made me very uneasy.  When I arrived at Novus, Steve and Paula and their crew made this as pleasant and comfortable as I could ever imagine.  I have to say, everyone here has been exceptional.  There were a few times that I was about to "freak out."  JJ and Ty always were there and Steve and Paula were as personable as you get.  Also, I want to give a big thanks to Kara.

The food was excellent.  Even food types I didn't like, they prepared it in a way that even those foods I enjoyed.

With your program I was able to get focused and stay on what would be best for me and my family instead of sinking in self pity.  All I can say is I don't see how any detox program out there could touch this one no matter how pricey they may be.  Very classy, very professional.  Thanks again."

"Kara, JJ, Andrew, Ty and all the rest of the staff were very nice and saw to all my needs.  The food was fantastic! After one week at Novus, I feel physically and mentally better than I have felt in two years.  I would and will recommend Novus to anyone I know who also has addiction problems."

NOVUS OBTAINS PERMANENT LICENSE!

        By Steven L. Hayes, Director

On April 4, 2007 Novus was granted a ninety-day probationary license from the Sun Coast Region Substance Abuse and Mental Health Program Office of the Department of Children and Families ("DCF"), the state agency which licenses medical detox facilities in Florida.   This probationary license allowed Novus to provide detoxification services to patients while we developed the comprehensive policies and procedures required by the DCF.

On June 22, 2007, two senior representatives from the DCF visited Novus to do the inspection which would determine whether or not Novus received its permanent license.   The representatives reviewed our policies and procedures and our patient charts, and interviewed several patients and staff.

On June 29, 2007, Novus received a letter from the DCF.  We have excerpted a part of the letter here:

"This letter is official notification that the Sun Coast Region Substance Abuse & Mental Health Program Office has completed its audit of the Novus Medical Detox Center of Pasco County program for follow-up probationary substance abuse services licensing renewal. Novus Medical Detox Center of Pasco County validated with an overall score of 96.95%. A passing score is 80%. Novus Medical Detox Center of Pasco County scored 445 points out of a possible 451."

Novus has received its permanent license!  We were very gratified when the representatives explained to us that many new facilities only score between 65%-80% and are given a provisional license for an additional 90 days so that they can correct the deficiencies found.  They pointed out that the normal score for a new facility that did obtain a permanent license on the first try was in the low 80% range.

Next week we will be submitting a compliance document to the DCF showing that we have now corrected the deficiencies for which they deducted six points from a perfect score.
We also thought you might want to see the results of the interviews between the DCF representatives and five of our patients:
