What our Methadone Detox patients say about Novus Medical Detox Center

(emphasis added in bold)

The people are amazing!!! My 10 day stay at Novus was like no detox I could imagine.  The food was great, amenities were amazing and again, the people are unbelievable, the detox was smooth!!

The food?   It was amazing, delicious and nutritious. The grounds were large, serene, and peaceful, just like home!!

While at Novus, I have learned so much about myself and the drugs I was taking.  The counselors are unbelievable.  Everyone, from the nurses to the kitchen staff.  Everyone here treats you with the utmost respect and professionalism.  I was blown away by everyone and everything.  Here you are treated like a person and not a number.  Without a doubt the best place anyone with an addiction could come.  While I was at Novus I have come to many realizations about my life, my decision making and my habit.  I have made the decision to live my life drug free and could not have done it without Novus!!!

Charter Captain (Methadone, Xanax, Paxil)

My stay at Novus was life changing.  I've tried and tried to think of anything at all that could possibly be improved upon, and short of needing a fire pit, I could think of nothing.

The personal care and attention by every staff member was unlike any that I could have foreseen or that I have ever experienced in my life.  From the cooks, to the nurses, to the counselors and owners, there is truly an amazing group of people working here.  Going from such a cold feeling devoid of life to having emotions rush back so quickly is a terrifying and at times joyful experience.  I will personally miss all of the counselors that were there day and night for me and am grateful beyond words for the hope that has grown in me through such close bonds.

The food was amazing and both fridges somehow magically replenish themselves in minutes.  I've been spoiled.

Housekeeping was top notch.  Minutes after leaving my room looking like a bomb went off in it, to smoke a cigarette, I'd return to it looking picture perfect.

Several years ago I thought I was saving my life by going onto a Methadone Maintenance Program.  I thought all roads had been ridden and all measures exhausted.  In a sense I may have saved my life, or at least bought myself some time, but all I had actually done was sold my entire life over to a clinic.

At first I felt relief from the chaos of having to constantly jeopardize my life with lovely pill fixes and shady people, and from the chronic pain that my pain management doctor had me convinced of.  Very rapidly I went from 30mg to 120mg for a while and then in a matter of weeks up to 300 mg.  It didn't take long or me to fall into a pit of hopelessness.

Every morning I was surrounded by people that had spent the last 10 – 30 years on methadone.  That and the willingness of my “counselor” to take me higher and higher had me convinced of the fact that I more likely than not would be a “lifer”.

Having gone through withdrawals from just about every known substance and been able to kick them, I finally was convinced that I was beaten by methadone.  My life has been one of terror for the last 3 years.  Terror of arrest or a surgery in which the doctors had no way to medicate me plagued me daily.  My life was once again crumbling.  I was taking 300 – 600mg of methadone daily.  Up to 1200 at times along with 10 – 20 mg of Xanax when I entered Novus.

All hope was gone, no detox would take me. 14 days after I leave here drug free and miraculously, my detox was 99% pain free.  I leave with hope and full support of my family.  Words cannot describe the miracles that I have gone through and witnessed during my stay.  I truly believe that Novus Detox has been put in place piece by piece and person by person by God himself.  For so many amazing people to come together, each playing their part to re-instill hope, health and life to so many “hopeless” cases is no accident.

Window Cleaner (Methadone, Xanax)

Please continue your mission; as it is necessary to address the evils of chemical dependence.  Please persist in your personalized efforts to simply help those of us whom are willing and are aware of the plight and ploy “Big Pharma” has induced and saturated our minds and bodies.  In essence continue to instill the philosophy of our bodies' ability to repair, restore, revive, live.

Surroundings and accommodations are harmonious to the means of medical detox!
I shall (try) to refrain from using words to describe my experience with Novus, as such would serve only to limit and bound and summarize that which is a journey – not a destination.  I have restored resource to begin or resume said journey.  I will strive to remain aware/conscious of life as it is, as it occurs – a journey not a destination.
That said, I am forever grateful and humbly wish to personally thank everyone at Novus Medical Detox, as everyone has helped me, assisted me to a goal NOT an end but a beginning.  Just as the care is personalized so is every moment along with every member of Novus staff.  All at Novus are different in personality yet they – you all represent the highest qualities of human goodness (as I see).  By this I mean everyone – EVERYONE has gone above and continuously beyond to serve the goal of Medical Detox.

I am forever grateful for your service and goodness!  Again, you compassionately helped me become more aware.  Additionally you went out of your way (out of the goodness of your heart) to assist me in finding the source of my pain.  I will no longer refer to it as chronic pain because I believe I may now address it at its source.  (Please forward these remarks and my thanks to Mr. Al Meilus, as he has been such an amazing person whom has gone to lengths to help me – I shall never forget!)

Audio Professional (Methadone, Cymbalta, Klonopin)

Excellent.  Zero complaints.

Successes – I am fat now and getting to eat and sleep.  I am glad I will not be on narcotics to get through the day.  I am glad I can use natural herbs to calm down.  It will be nice to not have to wake up and take drugs.

Realizations – I found out while I was there that the pain I was having was not from the surgeries I have had but from the narcotics I was taking.  I can also concentrate better.  I can sit still as best as I can sit still or let me put it like this, the best a caged lion can sit still.  I will be able to handle daily business with a clear mind.

Decisions –   1) I want to teach my brother to get off methadone. 2) I am going to a sauna detox to get the remainder of the drugs out of my system and also create a support team through family and friends.

Self –Employed (Methadone, Cocaine)

I was very impressed with the staff and the protocol for my situation.  All of the nurses were very attentive.

The entire facility is awesome.

The detox from methadone was made comfortable, I was really surprised.  Meeting and talking to the staff at Novus made me realize what I want to do with my life.  I have decided I want to become a dependency counselor and that has given me a purpose in life.  That will keep me from a possible relapse.  I have realized that I don't have to use substances to live a happy life and that I can confront life's issues without the help of these substances.  Thanks to all the Novus staff.

Retail Operations (Methadone)

The staff was great, very informative and helpful

All staff were very caring and compassionate.

I have found a reason to live after being treated at the Novus facility.  Drug use will impact anyone's life in a negative way, and this impacts your overall mind frame.  Having a clear head gives you the confidence and determination to want more from life.  Also you realize how devastating drug use can be to both the user and people in general.  Novus was a great place to detox, and I recommend this facility to anyone who is serious about getting off drugs or alcohol.  Success lies in the hands of the user, but Novus makes it possible to achieve your goal with minimal chance of failure.  Thanks to all!!

Industrial Maintenance Contractor (Methadone)

Honestly, this is the nicest detox center I've ever been to.  And I've been to a lot of places.

Five star food!  And it's perfectly decorated.

They have a peaceful energy.

I've accomplished a lot.  I'm free of opiates!  I realized that I don't need almost any of the medications I was on and I'm finally off of methadone.  I learned how dangerous prescription psychiatric drugs can be.  I learned how loving people can be when they're clean.  And how low people can get when they're high.  I also realized how big of an effect I can have on the people closest to me and I want it to be positive.

Student (Methadone)

The staff was so friendly and accommodating.  I barely felt any discomfort.  I want to acknowledge all Novus staff!!

While I was at Novus I was coming off of methadone and thought that it would be so uncomfortable and difficult to do.  I've found that not only can I 'survive' free of drugs but also that without them life is a lot betterThe vitamins and herbal supplements made me feel and look almost like a new person.  Thank you!!

Student (Methadone, Ativan)

Novus is the best place I could have ended this hellish journey.  I want to acknowledge all of the Novus staff!

Can I please come back and work here!

I won my life back by getting off all drugs.  I feel I have finally made some life long friends!  Words can't express my thanks to all of you at Novus!  I can feel again!

Self-Employed  (Methadone)

Novus has helped me in a way that I thought was impossible.  My stay was very comfortable and time flew.  The food was top notch and the company and counselors around me even better.  The nurses were very caring and supportive.

Awesome, simply awesome.

Everything was top notch, saving your life is worth the money.

I realized before I came to Novus that I was in need of a change.  Being in my early twenties I needed to get this right the first time.  There's too much at stake for everyone.  The medical weaning off the opiate Oxycodone was enough for me with a little fight.  If I would've needed more care they would've helped with open arms.  Remember everything in this life that is worth fighting for isn't easy.  Even the days after detox it's a life long fight to remember why you came to Novus.  I came here a young man wanting change, and I left a man that knew his way.  Life isn't easy, nothing is, but sobriety only makes things better.  My only recommendation is to come with the will to want to change and to say no matter what happens you'll leave here a better and changed person.  Thank you for reading my story.  Best of luck to all of you and me.

Mostly every person was very supportive and more than willing to help me with anything.  I detoxed from 65 mg of methadone and I ate everyday.  That is a miracle.
One thing I realized is that I never was really stuck, I only thought I was.  My past experience in overcoming drug dependence has been horrid bordering on torture.  Everyone at Novus convinced me that this time would be different than the past.  And it was different.  I came down from 65mg of methadone in 10 days and ate everyday.  I have a sister, I lost her in 2008.  She OD'd on heroin.  I wish I could tell her about this place and that it is possible to come off drugs in a sane manner.  Most drug users in the past were told to come off drugs cold turkey, which left most of us in shock, and scoring (drugs) on the release day.

I feel that I have been able to maintain my strength and sanity with the help of everyone here.  I am leaving here strong, opposed to weak and withdrawn.  I may attend a long term rehab when I leave, however I am looking into it.

If I'd known this could be done, I would have come here sooner in my addiction.  I will let you know how I do.  I know I'm going home  with my mom this summer and we will both be clean and sober.

Thank you to all.

Graphic Artist (Methadone)

I loved all of the staff at this facility, they are very understanding and make your stay as comfortable as possible.  At first you might think you are in hell, but just remember everyday gets better and you get your old self back, which to me is awesome.

Novus is the best detox center ever.  I was coming completely off methadone at 150 mg a day for six years and this medical facility saved my life.  I finally feel like a normal functioning human being.  They are very understanding of you as an individual and take the time out just for you.  They do not judge you in any way and treat you with the utmost respect.  All of the patients were very understanding and helped me through this drug I call the “DEVIL”.  Please do not let any Dr. put you on this, it is way more addicting and the withdrawals alone are HELL.
