Medical Director, Dr. Brent Agin
Dr. Agin, our medical director, is board certified in Family Medicine. He attended medical school at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. Experienced in counseling and detoxification for both illicit drugs and prescription medications, Dr. Agin is one of a very select group of physicians certified in buprenorphine therapy. His research in nutrition and vitamin therapy supports an important component of our detox program.
Director, Kent Runyon
Kent has over 20 years of management experience and over 15 years of executive level experience developing and leading accredited social services programs addressing diverse human needs including addiction, homelessness, poverty, trauma, and family reunification. He came to Novus drawn by its mission and vision to help others and to pursue excellence in the field of recovery. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Ball State University and later received his Masters Degree in Management from Indiana Wesleyan University. He also completed a two year certified Executive Leadership Program sponsored by the University of Notre Dame - Mendoza College of Business.
Director of Nursing Staff, Joy Augustine
Joy is a Registered Nurse with 34 years of experience. Her career includes many years of critical care nursing including Cardiac Care (CSU), Intensive Care (ICU), Recovery Room (PACU) and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit (BMT). She worked at the Moffit Cancer Center for 10 years specializing in GYN Oncology, Chemotherapy, and Transplant and as Nurse Educator for 2 years. Joy also became an Oncology Certified Nurse and a Certified Rehabilitation Nurse. In addition, she worked in home health for many years and Hospice for 7 years. In 2010, she received a degree in Health Care Administration and Management from Eckerd College and has worked as a Director of Nurses and Administrator for several years.
Joy has studied and practiced alternative and complementary medicine for over 25 years. She is a Licensed Massage Therapist, Therapeutic Touch and Master Reiki practitioner, as well as practiced in many other techniques. She began her studies in oriental medicine in 1999 and received a Masters Degree in Oriental Medicine after researching and studying for 5 years. Herbs and Internal medicine were a very large part of her studies. Always interested in holistic modalities, she became interested in treating those chronic conditions that Western Medicine tends to fail in treating, including pain management. She studied with internationally famous Chinese physicians who taught her how to diagnose the root cause of maladies and the treatments needed.
She views herself as a lifelong learner who has been called to seek better ways to care for patients and alleviate suffering.
Clinical Supervisor, Manuel Correa
Mr. Correa started his career in his hometown of Buffalo, New York where he attended Canisius College and received a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology. He has over 23years of experience in the field of addictions counseling and treatment, working in all levels of care including detox, inpatient, outpatient, residential, and research. He has worked with varied populations such as children, adolescents, adults, elderly, and families. Mr. Correa’s experience ranges from public to private entities including for-profit companies, Departments of Corrections, Juvenile Justice, and Motor Vehicles, SAMHSA and NIDA, as well as various district courts. Mr. Correa has developed clinical skills and experience covering cognitive behavioral therapies as well as other evidence based modalities. He also has extensive experience with traditional 12 steps, motivational and family systems methodologies. Mr. Correa has experience in individual and group counseling, and over ten years in program and administrative management, development, and clinical supervision. Mr. Correa also speaks Spanish.
Mr. Correa’s goals in his career have always been to learn, grow and develop his clinical skills as much as possible to provide the best service to those who need it. Novus reflects those same ideas. From continuing staff development, person focused care, and the growth and recovery of each person as their primary goal the Novus experience creates and environment of growth and progress that Mr. Correa has strived to be a part of during his career.
Counseling Staff, Hayden Potter
Hayden is a Certified Addiction Professional with eight years of experience in the field. He has a B.S. in Human Services with a concentration in addiction studies.
Hayden has spent four years at Novus working directly with hundreds of clients at the inpatient detox level. He's been to rehab and recovered from his own drug addiction and is now happily married with children. His knowledge and personal experience with addiction are invaluable in helping others overcome problems with drugs or alcohol.
Admissions Coordinator, Paul Weiss
Growing up in the drug culture, Paul spent many years enmeshed in all that involves. After recovering from his own drug addiction, Paul has worked for the last 8 years to help others escape the control of drugs in their lives. His personal understanding of what it takes to decide to change one's life makes him invaluable for anyone needing a concerned and caring ear. Now happily married and a new father, Paul works every day to be a haven for those who want to be free of the influence of drugs.
Admissions Coordinator, Justin Fraser
Justin started out in admissions for a residential treatment center nearly 10 years ago. He handled admissions, interventions and worked with families from all over the United States and Canada. Since Novus's beginning, Justin has used Novus as his choice detox, referring patients in from all over the country for medical drug detox. Justin then decided to join Novus full time in 2012. Justin understands both sides of addiction. After a sports injury in the late 90's he was introduced to prescription drugs and struggled with getting off of them for multiple years. After his successful recovery over a decade ago, he has been helping people battling addictions since.
